God is Good

Going through trying times can be challenging on all fronts, emotionally, psychologically and even spiritually. We sometimes hear people say God is punishing some other person with sickness because they sinned or that he visited someone with poverty because He wanted them to do His work but Psalm 34:8 says to us: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” It’s not enough to hum the refrain of the popular worship song that “God is good”. It’s a scriptural truth that must be known and believed.

God has good plans for us as always. He assures us of this in Jeremiah 29:11 thus: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” It’s therefore impossible for untimely deaths and disasters to be God’s ways of making people sober so they can fear Him. He does not lie! God is love and love does not harbor evil towards others no matter who they are. A great example of His goodness is the fact He loved us even when we were sinners and sent His only son to die for our sins. Anything contrary to good is not from God and should be dealt with as such in the place of prayer.
God’s desire is to give His children all we need for life and godliness, as a provision of grace that we access by faith. When we understand that He loves us and wants us to eat out of abundance and to be in health, we will stand in faith when we pray and claim all He has provided for us. James 1:17 says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” We are not working to prosper or be healed by our own strengths for they are already made available to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in whom we believe to receive these gifts. God is the Father of light, He cannot similarly harbor the darkness of poverty, terrorism and other societal failures in Himself not to talk of using them to punish us when we err. They are the works of the devil that must be rebuked. God is good, all the time!
